Defending champions City Oilers nearly lost to Nam Blazers late in the second half after an abysmal show at the MTN Arena, Lugogo on Friday.
Eventually, the eight-time champions held on to win 57-51 in a repeat of last season’s National Basketball League final.
At the end of halftime, the Oilers looked to escape away quickly as they led 41-21, but the second half was the absolute opposite.
The Blazers fought back to close the tie to just two points with seconds left before they eventually lost by six.
In the absence of the trio of Titus Lual, Jimmy Enabu, and Fayed Bbaale, Luak Ruai was the star of the show for the Oilers, putting up a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds.
On the other hand, Peter Cheng and Micheal Makiadi managed double figures, managing 19 and 14 points respectively.
While Nam Blazers have now won three for five this season, City Oilers are on a perfect nine-game winning streak.
