Following an announcement of Friday morning, national 7s defending champions Jinja Hippos will host the upper echelon of Ugandan sevens rugby in the first edition of the 2023 Nations Sevens.

The Calendar starts in Jinja on the 1st/2nd of July and will traverse the country before ending in Jinja on the 2nd/3rd of September in Bugembe.

There is an edition for each of the three wise men, as the East was granted three circuits. The hills in Tororo will be home to the penultimate edition of the year.

In a twist of events, the URU has indicated that all editions this year shall be played across two days, away from the expectation that series out of Kampala and Jinja are usually played across one day.

This move has been met with rolling eyes from club administrators, who are indicating the financial implications of two-day circuits in a stretch and may not be applicable at all.

Furthermore, July is packed with four circuits on 4 out of 5 weekends, and the amount of travel turnaround will worryingly break down the teams.

It looks like there’ll be no sevens circuit at Legends denying revellers of the festivities that come with Mileke 7s and Kitaka 7s.

KOBs had indicated including the activities of the Kitaka 7s as part of the 60th-anniversary celebrations. It looks like they will have to plan from elsewhere.

The Rhinos will be back this year as a core side at the expense of the Walukuba Barbarians, who were relegated during last year’s edition. The Rhinos defeated Elgon Wolves in the playoff finale.
