The day for school categories has sailed smoothly, with first rounds staying a few steps away from medal contention.

In Girls Under 10, a number of 12 players, including Umaimah Nabasirye, managed to reach the round of 16, and possibly that number can rise to 15.

In Boys Under 10, last season’s winner, Sofian Nsubuga, qualified for round 32 along with last year’s semifinalists, and exceptionally, Hatwib Uthman had already reached the last 16, waiting for others.

For the Under 13s, the boys have reached round 16 on a shocking note after last season’s winner, Rehan Kitenda, being defeated in the round of 32 by Imran Mpaji.

A number of 13 have reached the round of 16, with all players at this stage not having made it to the medals list last season.

In the girls’ category, they are at the quarterfinal stage, and the stage is also dominated by Ugandan players.

For the U19s, the category on day one stopped at the round of 16 in both boys and girls, with the under 15s awaiting tomorrow to serve off.

The East Africa Badminton Challenge is commencing until Sunday, October 19, at Lugogo Indoor Arena; a number of 125 trophies were placed there for grabs.
