Under the warm sun and lush surroundings of Kabira Country Club, the spirit of rugby was alive and thriving this past week as the highly anticipated AFD/FFR Training Program began on Wednesday, June 4th.
The eight-day initiative brought together women coaches, referees and administrators from across Uganda with one unified goal: to strengthen their skills and fuel the growth of rugby in the nation.
Designed as a comprehensive learning journey, the program focused on two key objectives: understanding the inner workings of rugby organization and mastering the art of project development.
Participants explored the entire project cycle from conducting needs analysis to crafting actionable plans, monitoring progress, and evaluating outcomes.
At the heart of the training was the Rugby 7s Coaching Skills Development Program. Each day unfolded with carefully curated sessions on technical skills development, session planning, practical coaching, and fostering inclusive environments.
Participants were engaged through interactive methods, including daily energizers and the coveted “Coach of the Day” badge, a nod to their commitment and progress.
“This training has opened our eyes to new ways of coaching and leading,” said one participant.
“We are excited to take what we’ve learned back to our communities.”
Behind the program’s success stood a team of dedicated trainers; Aurélien Bouthier, Paul-Hugo Ramain, Jérôme Brunemer, and Robert Bwali whose expertise and passion left a lasting impact.
The Uganda Rugby Union extended heartfelt thanks to the trainers for their invaluable contributions.
As the program draws to a close tomorrow, the spotlight shifts to Kyadondo Rugby Club, where trainee coaches will deliver an Age Grade Get into Rugby session.
This practical showcase promises to be an inspiring finale, as participants translate their knowledge into action on the field.
