Impis RFC has ushered in a new era of leadership, headed by renowned club stalwart Slyvester Nnyombi Egumire.
His appointment comes at a pivotal moment as the club has just been promoted back to the top flight.
Nnyombi succeeds interim chairperson Isaac Onyango, who steered the club following the “aggressive takeover” that dissolved Pius Mpoza’s cabinet after the team’s relegation in 2024.
Reflecting on his appointment, Nnyombi expressed gratitude for the club’s confidence in him, a bond built since he first joined the fold in 2012. His immediate priority is a comprehensive review of the club’s governing documents.
“The game of rugby in Uganda has evolved significantly over the last decade, yet our constitution hasn’t been updated in 12 years,” Nnyombi noted. “Our first task is to revise it to reflect the modern game.”
By revising the constitution, Nnyombi aims to resurrect the club’s internal organs and formalise membership structures.
He believes this groundwork is essential for strategically repositioning the club as a powerhouse in Ugandan rugby.
His administration’s roadmap focuses on four pillars: player welfare, transparent accountability, aggressive income generation, and the professional management of club assets.
The New Impis Executive includes;
1. Sylvester Nnyombi Egumire – Chairperson
2. Gabriel Mugabi – Vice Chairperson
3. Bob Derrick Akampa – Treasurer
4. Edward Eriaku – Secretary
5. Harrison Ssejemba – Club Captain
6. Brian Miiro – Patron
7. Phillip Adruf – Vice Patron

8. Prof. Tonny Luggya – Honorary Member
9. Robert Byabasheija – Honorary Member
In a strategic move, Nnyombi announced the addition of outgoing Kobs RFC Chairperson Prof. Tonny Luggya and Robert Byabasheija as honorary members of the executive. Both are former Impis chairpersons from the 2000s.
By reintegrating these veterans, Nnyombi intends to leverage their vast experience and social capital to ensure the club doesn’t just survive in the top flight, but thrives.
As Nnyombi aptly put it: “Once you love this club, you never stop loving it.”
