As Uganda prepares for a busy motorsport season, the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda(FMU) has moved to strengthen safety ahead of the 2026 calendar and the prestigious Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally.

On Monday, February 16, 2026, more than 100 marshals and safety officials gathered in Ndebba for a one day refresher course focused on tightening safety protocols and improving emergency response.

The training covered crowd control, risk assessment and prevention of potential security threats to keep fans, drivers and officials safe during rally events.

The session was led by Assistant Senior Superintendent of Police Hussein Nsobya, Director of the Counter Terrorism Unit, representing the Uganda Police Force.

He worked alongside former FMU Deputy President (Technical – Rallying) and Pearl Rally Clerk of Course Kisitu Mayanja, as well as FMU Vice President for Safety and Medical Commissions, Hajji Hamid Gombe.

Participants took part in practical drills and coordination exercises with security agencies, learning how to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.

The training stressed vigilance, clear communication and teamwork, vital elements when managing large crowds at rally stages across the country.

Mayanja urged marshals to embrace a strong safety culture within the sport.

“We need to develop a safety culture; people should do the right things even when no one is watching,” he said.

Marshals remain central to rally organisation. Stationed at highrisk sections, they enforce safety guidelines, control spectators and act as first responders when incidents occur.

With the Pearl Rally drawing both local and international competitors, FMU’s proactive approach highlights its commitment to global safety standards, ensuring the action on the stages is thrilling, but never at the expense of lives.
