The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has warned the public against an unauthorized motorsport event dubbed “Gymkhana Dragz & Drift Challenge,” reportedly set for November 16, 2025, in Fort Portal City.
In a statement, FMU said the event, which is using the federation’s logo without permission is being promoted by individuals falsely claiming affiliation with the Western Motor Club.
The federation distanced itself from the organizers, stressing that the event is not sanctioned, not recognized, and not on its official calendar.
FMU reminded the public that under the Sports Act, 2023, only organizations licensed by the National Council of Sports (NCS) through their respective national federations can hold sporting events in Uganda.
As the country’s sole motorsport authority, FMU oversees all competitions under the international regulations of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM).
“No one can organize a motorsport event in Uganda without written approval from FMU,” the statement read, noting that this ensures compliance with safety, technical, and organizational standards.
The federation added that motorsport is a high-risk sport requiring coordination with the Uganda Police Force and clearance from relevant ministries including Education and Sports, and Works and Transport, particularly for the use of speed measuring instruments.
“Any unsanctioned event poses serious safety and legal risks to both participants and spectators,” FMU warned.
The federation also pointed out that the timing of the Fort Portal event clashes with an official, approved competition, the TT and Drifting Challenge organized by the Central Motor Club (CMC) at Nile Resort Hotel, Namanve.
FMU called the unauthorized event’s branding and timing “an act of sabotage meant to confuse the public.”
Under Section 54(1) of the Sports Act, 2023, organizing or participating in an unsanctioned sports event is illegal. FMU cautioned that those involved could face legal consequences for any losses, injuries, or damages arising from such activities.
FMU has alerted the Uganda Police Force, including the Regional Police Commander (RPC) and District Police Commander (DPC) of Fort Portal City, urging them to stop the illegal event.
Reaffirming its stance, FMU said it remains committed to safe, regulated, and professional motorsport, in line with its Road Safety and Youth Development mandate under the Ministry of Education and Sports, and in partnership with the Ministry of Works and Transport.
