The second round of the FUFA Women Super League returned today with three exciting games as Kawempe Muslim LFC, Rines S.S WFC, and She Maroons FC registered victories.
Kawempe Muslim defeated Uganda Martyrs 1-0 at the latter’s home ground in Lubaga to stay top of the league table, Rines narrowly edged Lady Doves 1-0 to jump over the red zone while She Maroons beat UCU Lady Cardinals 3-1 to stay in third position.
In Lubaga, in-form Agnes Nabukenya scored the all important lone goal to hand Kawempe a hard fought win to go four points clear at the top.
Both teams had no clear goal scoring opportunities until in the 28th minute when defender Stella Namisango gifted a ball to Agnes Nabukenya who made a run inside the box and smashed the ball into the back of net to put the visitors in the lead.
Uganda Martyrs tried to find the equalizer in the second half but they weren’t clinical in front of the goal as Kawempe’s Nabukenya and Kabacureezi both missed chances to extend their lead.
Uganda Martyrs’ forward Brenda Munyana was shown a red card for a second bookable offence as Kawempe secured their third consecutive league win against the hosts, and their 8th clean sheet in 10 games this season.
In the next game, Uganda Martyrs will visit Wakiso Hills WFC in Kitende on Saturday, 24th February, 2024 and on the following day, table leaders Kawempe Muslim visit Lady Doves in Masindi.
