Girls School Cricket: Olila High, Jinja SS, and Masaka SS shines

Day one of the National Girls Schools Cricket Week saw favourites Olila High School and Jinja Senior Secondary School pick easy wins.

Record Champions Jinja SS beat hosts and debutants St. Mary’s Madera College by 44 runs before running riot against Victoria High School, beating them by 129 runs.

Hope Mbeiza (22) and Mary Namiro led the scoring for the Jinja side as they put on board 105 for the loss of 3 in the morning game.

In the afternoon, Whitney Nassuna (40), Namiro (42), Erax Eronde(21), Mbeiza (19), and Rukia Namuleme (16) were the stars.

Defending Champions Olila were not given a run for their money either against another debutant Iganga Secondary School who they bowled out in the 14th Over with 22 runs only.

It was an easy chase for Olila who had to use only Jimia Muhammad (15) and Lorna Anyait (4) in their lone game of the day at St. Mary’s College in Soroti.

Meanwhile, Masaka SS who are hoping to win their maiden trophy eased past Victoria High with an eight-wicket win.

Their star player and Victoria Pearls‘ opening batter Proscovia Alako scored 20 in the team’s chase for 31.

The team skipper was bowled after facing only 10 balls but, Alako had already won the game for Masaka.

Elsewhere, Ndejje SS were victors in a low-scoring game against another tournament debutant Gulu High. They won by eight wickets after chasing 28.

The games continue today with Olila facing Light SS in a Soroti derby. Jinja SS will take on Kilembe SS while Ndejje will play Mt. Rwenzori Girls SS.
