Uganda’s only representative at the 2023 IBA Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jnr is out.

The Bomber lost to 2020 Tokyo Olympian Eskekhan Madiev in a split decision made by the ringside judges.

Ssenyange came so close to victory in the round of 32 bout in the elite men’s 67-71Kg Light Middleweight category but fell short.

The Ugandan boxer started strongly in the first round and was the better fighter in the ring landing several punches that gave him victory in the bout’s opener.

“Almost never counts. It’s always that input that counts. Hard Luck Uganda, tonight we learn, get back to the grind, and bounce back stronger and wiser,” Ssenyange noted.

Madiev opted for aggression but Ssenyange chose a technical approach and controlled the fight but failed to kill it off despite landing good punches.

“Lastly Alhamdulillah! as this month (May) marks 1 year of my International Boxing career and seeing the strides I have taken am proud,” he added.

Madiev now has two wins against Uganda’s flag. The junior European champion defeated Shadir Musa Bwogi at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
