Ndejje Secondary School beat Mt. Rwenzori by six wickets to secure their second win at the National Girls’ Schools Cricket Week.
Ndejje were good with the ball with Esther Namutebi picking four wickets and Dorah Ninsiima picking 3 to top Group A.
There was nothing special with their batting as no player went over nine runs, but their coach Shama Mukaaya says their strength lies in batting.
As they get set to face tournament favourites Olila High today, Mukaaya says their batting is what will get them past Olila.
“Our batting unit hasn’t showcased what they can do so far, I think because of our opponents. We have been made to chase low scores,” Mukaya said.
“If we win the toss against Olila, we are batting. Olila have very good and experienced players, but I believe my girls can contain them.”
Olila are unbeaten as well in this tournament, but they sit second in their group due to a lower net run rate.
Olila were eight-wicket winners over their rivals Light SS to boost their morale ahead of the big one.
Invincible Jinja SS tops Group B
In Group B, Jinja SS is also still unbeaten. They have won three out of three with their latest coming against Kilembe SS who they beat by three wickets.
“So far so good, the girls are executing our game plan. However, we have a few things we need to work on,” Habib Mugalula, head coach Jinja SS noted.
“Our batting is on point so is our slow bowling. But we need to work on our fielding. We’ve dropped easy catches,” Mugalula added.
Jinja SS are the record winners of this tournament. They return to action against Lords Meade.
