Platinum Credit Heathens needed a late-late try to stop the Walukuba Barbarians’ charge to maintain the first position on the National Rugby Championship table.

The Heathens led after the first stanza through three Chris Lubanga penalties to lead 9-3 with Gift Wokorach grabbing the Barbarians’ solitary score.

Heathens got out of the gate first in the second half through a Champara try that was converted by Lubanga. It was the Barbarians show from there on, with Edward Emiemu grabbing a try for the hosts, and Isah Luqman converting.

With four minutes left on the clock, Emiemu grabbed his second and Sembuusi put through the conversion that would push the score to 17-16 in the Barbarians’ favour.

It was Michael Amollo who broke the home team’s hearts with a try in the final play, which was converted by Lubanga to give Heathens a 21-17 win.

Hippos won the Giordano derby against Impis, winning 48-20 to climb above the Rhinos on the table into second spot.

Pirates had a pristine second half to put away the Rams after a close 12-10 first period. Pirates scored 34 unanswered second-half points, courtesy of 6 tries and 2 conversions.

The Plascon Mongers inflicted more pain on the Eagles’ season, winning 30-20 despite going into halftime tied at 13-all. In the same spirit, Toyota Buffaloes were 30-20 winners over the Warriors.
