How Stewards Have Improved Football Stadium Security in Uganda

These Pics, tell you how far we have come. Back in the days, tear gas and live bullets were the order of the day whenever we had any small crowd related incidents in our Stadiums.

Slowly but steadily, despite a lot of fitina, malice and sabotage, we (with Captain Kiggundu George and Jamil Sewanyana) managed to introduce the concept of Stewarding in Uganda.

Today, Stewards take the lead inside stadiums and are deployed around the pitch, VIP area, stands, dressing rooms and access points, while the Police manage the outer ring and Searching at the gates.

Their commander coordinates with the match security manager to ensure that law and order is maintained.

I am glad to see all Premier League clubs and Drum tournament teams now deploying stewards.

Fans are honestly happy about these changes. A stadium isn’t a warzone, tear gas and live bullets are not the solution!

The struggle continues!
