International Juniors Badminton: Uganda wins 8 medals

The Uganda International Juniors championship that shuttled off on Monday this week has climaxed today, Wednesday with Uganda winning eight bronze medals.

The awarding ceremony was graced by Uganda Communication Commission, Acting Executive Director Fred Otunu who thanked team Uganda for the wins.

Unfortunately, none of the Ugandan players escaped the semifinals but they managed to win bronze medals in women’s singles, men’s singles plus in the men’s doubles, and women’s doubles.

The All Africa Badminton Senior Championship gold medalist Fadilah Shamika won two bronze medals in singles and women’s doubles.

Tracy Naluwooza who lost in the quarter-finals in singles yesterday, also managed to secure a bronze medal in Women’s doubles, she doubled with Shamika and they lost to the UAE duo of Taabia Khan and Mysha Omer Khan.

Aaron Ndawula, Akbar Oduka, Guna Kusal, Reagan Michael Nsubuga, and Abed Bukenya all won bronze medals in men’s doubles.

However, the players from UAE proved that they are exceptional in this juniors Championship, winning gold medals in both men’s singles and doubles.

Fast forward, the men’s single and women’s single final were between players from UAE with Bharath Latheesh and Sanika Dhawan Gurav scooping gold.
