Jinja Hippos star Tawfik Bagalana is set to join Leicester Forest RFC in England for the 2023-2024 rugby season. The technical management of the Jinja Hippos confirmed the news this morning.

“We are thrilled to share that Tawfik Bagalana, one of our own, has been granted the opportunity to play for Leicester Forest RFC in England during the 2023-24 season,” read a statement from the club.

Tawfik Bagalana has been a part of everything excellent that has come from the Jinja Hippos since they became a prime-time team.

He was an essential cog of the Hippos, most notably inspiring the team to their first-ever national trophy when they won the 2022 National 7s title.

Bagalana has been no stranger to national duties, starring for the African Scorpions RFC in Zanzibar as they defeated Bryncethin RCF 38-05.

“The Hippos Rugby Football Club has been wholeheartedly supportive of this exciting move, and we couldn’t be happier for Fiki as he embarks on the next chapter of his rugby and life journey.”

The Hippos, through Bagalana, are delighted to achieve one of their main targets: actively seeking and embracing life-changing opportunities for their players.

“Fiki’s journey is a testament to this commitment. We are immensely proud of him and deeply appreciate the trust he placed in the Technical Team by sharing his plans from the very beginning.”
