The shuttlecocks were flying at Kabojja International School on Saturday as the inaugural Badminton Uganda Kabojja International School Championship got underway, drawing 120 young players eager to showcase their talent.
The two-day event, which ends Sunday, features boys and girls competing in four age groups U10, U13, U15, and U19 with both singles and doubles matches lined up.
Uganda Badminton Chairperson Annet Nakamya praised Kabojja’s role in promoting the sport.
“Kabojja is a top school, and everything here is world-class,” she said. “Facilities like these foster competition and bonding, which benefits the sport and the Federation.”
For Kabojja, the championship reflects its wider vision of holistic education. Sandy Bansal, Head of School (Cambridge), highlighted the value of sport in shaping young lives.
“Sports are essential to a child’s growth,” he said. “Not all students know their paths, but many stars have been made through sports.”
With packed stands and lively energy on day one, the championship is already more than just competition. It’s a platform for young players to test themselves, build friendships, and dream of representing Uganda on the global stage.
The finals on Sunday will crown the first champions of a tournament expected to become a regular fixture on the schools’ sports calendar.
