Karan Patel, Jas Mangat to battle in the 2024 Pearl of Africa Rally

Next weekend’s Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally will also double as the third event on Uganda Rally calendar.

The Africa Rally Championship event is scheduled for 10–12 May, 2024 and will be held in Jinja district, the Eastern region of Uganda.

By press time, over thirty entries that include; current national championship leader Jonas Kansiime, and former National Champion, Ronald Sebuguzi had their names inked on the participants list.

Defending champion Jas Mangat and 2011 champion Ponsiano Lwakataka have also been registered, drawing more of the rally’s rich history and competitive spirit.

Defending African rally champion Karan Patel (Kenya) and Junior African rally champion Hamza Anwar (Kenya) are the two foreign drivers who will add to the comptition and excitement for the Pearl of Africa rally.

This year’s stages have been designed to offer a fun and touristic experience for the fans and sponsors, viewing the rally cars within the gazetted spectator zones at least five times on day one.

“Safety of crews and fans remains our major priority. Our target scope in this rally being an African Championship calendar opener, is to have a smooth and successfully run event,” noted FMU president elect Jimmy Akena, event manager.

Day one menu will have free practice and a qualifying stage in Wairaka, while Day two will feature seven stages. The 209.45 kilometres competitive distance rally will climax with three stages on day three.

The event is supported by the National Council of Sports, KCB Bank Uganda, Uganda Railways, Source of the Nile Hotel, SCOUL, Ruparelia Group, Jinja City, Fire and Safety Appliances as well as Makerere University Business School – Jinja campus.
