On Friday afternoon, the KCB Bank-sponsored Kampala Old Boys Rugby Football Club (KOBs RFC) confirmed the appointment of Victor Wadia to replace former Head Coach Brian Makalama in the interim.
“We wish to inform our members and the rugby fraternity at large that Victor Wadia will be taking over the reins at KOBs RFC after mutually parting ways with Coach Brian Makalama,” read the club statement.
Brian Makalama has been coaching the KOBs since 2022, replacing Fred Mudoola, who had been sought to take the national team’s 15-a-side coaching job.

At his appointment, Makalama joined the KOBs as a consultant with Chairman Livingstone Luggya adamant he would help fine-tune the KOBs’ scrum and forwards alignment, a point from which his position would be defined and contract renewed.
Brian Makalama’s replacement came after he insinuated that the team made many mistakes and that the attitude was lacking during the KOBs’ 30-23 loss to Heathens in the Uganda Cup semifinal.
Makalama has coached the Uganda 15-a-side national team, the U20 rugby team, Stanbic Balck Pirates, Rhinos, Kisumu and Western Bulls of Kenya.

Veteran Victor Wadia takes over the reins from Brian and will be assisted by ex-KOBs and Uganda Rugby Cranes Davis Kyewalabye and Allan Matsiko.
Victor Wadia has been assistant coach of the Lady Cranes as recently as last year. Victor’s playing career spanned Mongers and Impis before finding a home at the Kampala Old Boys.
