Thursday morning came with smiles for the Kampala Old Boys (KOBs) faithful as it was announced that giant bankers, KCB Bank, through their Uganda office, were the team’s new sponsors.
Owing to the UGX 95M sponsorship bounty, KCB has been handed naming rights for the club, and the latter will hereafter be referred to as the KCB KOBs.
The announcement was made by KCB Bank Head of Marketing and Communications, Mrs Diana Komukama Ssempebwa, at a presser organised at the Kampala Rugby Club, famously known as Legends.
“I am pleased to announce that KCB Bank Uganda is committing UGX 95 million to KOBs Rugby Club as part of our support for the growth of the club and promotion of rugby talent among the youth in Uganda,” said Diana.
“Last year, KCB Bank embraced a new brand promise: For People For Better, as part of our commitment to deliver shared value to the people and communities we serve and whose lives we positively impact.”
KOBs is one of the most decorated clubs in Uganda, boasting 13 Premiership titles, 9 Uganda Cup titles and National 7s championships – having been established in 1963.
What KOBs said
“This partnership is more than a business relationship for us; it is also a big opportunity that marks a bond for us as a family. Thank you for believing in us and taking this step with us. We hope to deliver an experience better than your expectations,” said KOBs Coach Godfrey Ssekajja.
KOBs joins another rugby powerhouse, KCB Lions, who are under the sponsorship of the KCB Bank brand in Kenya. In Uganda, they become the second team to be actively sponsored by a bank, after the Stanbic Bank Black Pirates.
The sponsorship comes at a time when the grapevine is not favouring the internal struggles of the Kampala Old Boys, and this is one of the many moves the administration is making to put the struggles behind them.
We are happy to partner with our new title sponsors @kcbbankug and are looking forward to mutual development. We're hopeful that this will be an opportunity for the team to become the most competitive, and dominant club as known.

The Kampala Old Boys have gone a full rugby calendar without a victory, the last win coming at the National 7s in 2021.
