University Football League

  • Kampala University 0-0 Uganda Martyrs University
  • Kyambogo University 2-1 ISBAT University

The 13th edition of the University Football League opened with drama and defiance at the refurbished Hamz Stadium on Thursday, serving up three goals, a red card and a heroic goalkeeping display.

In the day’s opener, two-time champions Kampala University (KU) held reigning titleholders Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) to a tense 0–0 draw.

New KU goalkeeper Wafula David was the star, pulling off three superb saves to frustrate UMU’s forwards and earn coach Vincent Tumusiime a valuable point.

The evening clash delivered the fireworks. Returning from a two-year suspension for fan misconduct, Kyambogo University stunned ISBAT University 2–1 despite playing nearly half an hour with ten men.

Komakech Emmanuel struck in the third minute, only for ISBAT’s Akantambira Daniel to level three minutes later.

Kyambogo goalkeeper Mushemeza Edgar’s red card early in the second half left his side under siege, but substitute Odong Ivan broke away in the 82nd minute to seal a famous win.

ISBAT protested a missed penalty call moments earlier, but the referee waved play on, sparking wild celebrations from the Kyambogo faithful.

The victory puts Kyambogo top of Group C with three points and a dream return to the competition.

Action resumes Friday when 2019 champions Uganda Christian University host Ndejje University in Mukono.
