- JKL Lady Dolphins 106-35 Angels Basketball Club
Right after some Kwibuka genocide Basketball action in Rwanda, in a dominant performance that sent shockwaves across the National Basketball League Women’s side, JKL Lady Dolphins dismantled Angels Basketball Club with a commanding 106-35 victory on Wednesday evening.
The game, held at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, was a masterclass in dominance as Henry Malinga’s side controlled every inch of the court from start to finish.
From the opening whistle, the Lady Dolphins wasted no time asserting their authority. They raced to a 23-10 lead in the first quarter, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided affair.
By halftime, the scoreboard read 54-14, as Angels struggled to break through the suffocating defense and clinical ball movement of their opponents.
If there was any hope for a second-half turnaround, the Dolphins quickly extinguished it. With relentless pace and precision, JKL piled on 24 points in the third quarter and capped the night with a blistering 28-point final period while limiting Angels to single-digit returns in each of the last two quarters.
Veterans like Flavia Oketcho (7), Ritah Imanishimwe (18) and Hope Akello (29) provided leadership while emerging stars such as Shadia Nassanga (12) and Tamasha Nsubuga (16) offered scoring punch and energy.
Akello however was the standout with a double double going on to add 12 rebounds on her 29 points same as Nassanga.
Coach Henry Malinga’s rotation looked sharp as every player contributed, maintaining intensity regardless of the scoreboard.
Their stifling full-court press forced multiple turnovers which were quickly converted into fast-break points.
For Coach Emmanuel Ateng’s Angels, it was a humbling night.
Despite efforts from players like Joan Namatovu and Ritah Komugisa, the team couldn’t keep up with JKL’s tempo or physicality.
Their shooting was cold, their passing laboured and defensively they had no answers.
The angels were held to just 4 points in the second quarter and only managed 35 points for the entire game, which was one of their lowest scoring outputs this season.
Martha Patience Likicho raised a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds with Komugisa being the other player to manage double figures.
Elsewhere in the NBL Women, UCU Lady Canons triumphed over Nabisunsa 72-62 at YMCA Wandegeya while Magic Stormers, 71-55, came out big in the tie with UPDF Lady Tomahawks.
