In November 2023, international construction company Summa handed over the artistic design for the Lugogo Multi-purpose Indoor Sports Complex, Kampala City.

The impressions were received by the state minister of sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, on behalf of the Minister of Education and National Council of Sports (NCS) board chairman Ambrose Tashobya.

This caused panic in the cricket fraternity and sports at large with concerns of being kicked out of Lugogo hence ownership battles halting the start of the project.

Uganda Sports Union who claimed ownership of the land earmarked for the redevelopment, and NCS, the current land administrator had a meeting with Lands minister, Ms Judith Nabakooba.

Both sides tabled their submissions in the 10th of January 2024 meeting and the verdict is not cast in stone, NCS is the legal landlord.

“It’s a milestone reached as @ministry_lands led by the Permanent Secretary, Dorcas Okalany today handed over the land title for Plot 10 Heskey Road,” read part of Hon. Ogwang’s post on X.

The documents were received by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, to facilitate smooth preparations for the construction of the Lugogo Indoor Sports Complex.

Hon. Ogwang added that land ownership has been one of the major setbacks impeding sports development and for this particular sports facility, the process to reclaim the title has been ongoing since 2018.

“I thank the Minister of Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni for expediting this process. We’re now ready!”

Now, with the land title in, hopefully, Hon. Ogwang and the team will share details about the cost, duration of the construction process, and actual groundbreaking.

According to the artistic design, the complex will have a modern indoor arena, clubhouse, and other amenities for several games such as Basketball, netball,Hockey, Volleyball, Handball, and Football.
