Veteran driver Moses Lumala, co-driven by Cedric Buzabo, dedicated his podium finish to rally trainer Maris Neiksans.
Lumala’s turnaround came after Neiksans questioned his pace: “After two stages on Friday, I felt tired. Thought age was catching up. But Maris showed me videos, asked why I drove like I was headed to a wedding!”
Lumala reviewed his onboard footage, promised to improve and did. He beat rally winner Hassan Alwi by 8 seconds in the Yasin Nasser stage. “After the first service, my times improved.”
Encouraged by friends and his team, Lumala pushed for more in the Arthur Ahimbisibwe and Yasin Nasser repeats, securing third overall.
Hassan Alwi won in 1:12:42. Musa Ssegabwe was disqualified for breaching FMU rules, elevating Lumala to second place. Stefano Valeri moved to third.
Other winners: Mansoor Lubega dominated 2WD. KCB crews Oscar Ntambi (4th) and Nasser Mutebi (5th) survived. Haruna Kataza-David Mwesigwa (Subaru Impreza) was most entertaining.
