Rally ace Ponsiano Lwakataka and his co-driver Paul Musaazi have been crowned winners of the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Award following their dominant performance in the opening round of the Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC) the Lumala @60 Mum @90 Rally held last week in Mbarara.
The crew, piloting a Subaru Impreza N12B, showcased an aggressive but calculated drive to clinch victory in the season opener, setting an early pace in the national championship. Their impressive performance in the demanding Mbarara stages earned them well-deserved recognition in the motorsport category of the prestigious monthly awards.
With this victory, Lwakataka, a three-time national champion, has sent a strong signal to his rivals as he eyes another NRC title. The next round of the championship is set to take place in Greater Masaka, organized by Southern Motor Club (SMC), where Lwakataka will be racing on familiar terrain.

Speaking after receiving the award, Lwakataka emphasized his intent to maintain his lead in the championship.
“Winning in Mbarara was just the beginning. The next round is in Masaka, my home ground, and I plan to put up a performance that will keep me on top of the standings,” Lwakataka stated.
The Greater Masaka Rally, scheduled for April, is expected to attract top NRC contenders, including rival Jas Mangat, 2023 champion Yasin Nasser, and the returning Duncan Mubiru, all of whom will be eager to challenge Lwakataka’s dominance.
With challenging roads, unpredictable weather conditions, and the hunger for early season points, the greater Masaka showdown promises an intense battle for supremacy. Will Lwakataka extend his lead, or will the competition close in?
