Lyca Mobile Pledges Support for Ugandan Cricket in Landmark Five-Year Partnership

Telecommunications company, LYCA Mobile have pledged their support to cricket, this after they signed a five-year partnership with Uganda Cricket Association (UCA).

The partnership is aimed at promoting and elevating the game right from the grass roots, and improve the overall skill set and level of Uganda Cricket through provision of funds and access to international coaching experts for both the men and women’s teams.

Lyca have rendered their support at a time UCA is preparing for two major events; the national men’s cricket team, the Cricket Cranes qualified for the World Cup – their first ever while the women’s team, the Victoria Pearls qualified for the World Cup Global Qualifiers.

What they said

While addressing the press on Monday during the partnership unveiling, Vinaya Choudary Alapat, CEO Lyca Mobile Uganda said; “We are confident that the UCA leadership will help the national cricket teams move forward with success.

“The commitment of the players can also take the teams to any level and it was wonderful to see what happened last year. We are not here as a mere sponsor, we are partnering.”

At the same function, Jackson Kavuma, the Secretary for UCA said; “Lyca has chosen the right partner. The synergies we are going to put in place will take cricket to the right direction.

Hon. Peter Ogwang, the State Minister For Sports was also in attendance. He gave his view on the partnership.

“This is a special day… it’s good to see the private sector come and support cricket. The partnership has come at a moment when cricket has been gazetted as a priority sport so this will enhance advocacy for the promotion of cricket in the country.”

Hon. Okello Oryem – State Minister For Foreign Affairs and Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, State Minister For ICT were also among the dignitaries in attendance.
