After five successive defeats, the Cricket Cranes finally secured their first victory in India where they’re holding a 12-day training camp ahead of their maiden appearance at the World Cup.

The victory came in form of a 7-wicket win against All Heart Academy on Tuesday, and it was thanks to debutant Innocent Mwebaze.

Mwebaze who opened the bowling with David Wabwire had a mixed start! The 20-year-old picked two wickets in his first two Overs, but those wickets came at the expense of 23 runs.

He was withdrawn from the attack by his captain, Brian Masaba, but when he was entrusted with the ball again, the youngster displayed mastery.

Mwebaze got back to the attack in the 12th Over, and dismissed three wickets, missing out on a hat trick by a whisker.

The debutant then returned to the attack in the final Over to which he cut short with his sixth wicket as Uganda bowled out All Heart with four balls spare.

Mwebaze was largely helped by opening batter Simon Ssesazi. Three of his wickets were catches (2) and a stumping by the left hander.

Ssesazi also helped Kenneth Waiswa dismiss Dhanay Patekh (stumping) and was also instrumental in Uganda’s innings.

The opener notched 44 runs, the most by any player on the pitch. It is his highest score in this tour. Robinson Obuya 21 and Fred Achelam 24 were the other players that got the runs for Uganda as they completed the chase in the 11.3 Over.

Veteran Frank Nsubuga and Wabwire also contributed towards Uganda’s victory. Nsubuga picked two wickets while Wabwire got one.

The Cricket Cranes take a break on Wednesday and will return to action on Thursday with two games against the same side.

They will then conclude their tour on Friday against Omtex ICWC the team that beat them by 2 runs on match day two.
