She Cranes and National Women’s Handball star Mutesi Nasiimu is heading to Sochi, Russia, to pursue a Master’s in Sports Administration, adding a new chapter to a career built on resilience and versatility.
To run back time when Uganda’s netball calendar stalled for two years, many athletes faced uncertainty.
For Mutesi, the pause became a turning point just like many of her colleagues like Margret Bagaala, Mercy Batamuliza and others.
Instead of waiting, she embraced handball and basketballwhere her natural athleticism quickly stood out.
Today, Mutesi is one of Uganda’s few double internationals, representing the country in both netball and handball.
She has previously been playing for NIC Netball Club and Victoria University’s handball team while also pursuing a master’s in Marketing there.
Her path hasn’t been smooth. Some coaches question if juggling multiple sports is sustainable but Mutesi sees her versatility as an advantage, not a weakness.
Now, the move to Sochi is both personal and professional, a chance to gain skills to shape sport beyond the court and help develop it back home.
