Ugandan referee Shamirah Nabadda has been selected among the 16 referees that will officiate at the fast-approaching 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Nabadda is a renown figure, both in men and women’s football and, she is among the bunch of the referees that officiate in the Uganda Premier League.

She will not be the only Ugandan representative at the tournament given that the Crested Cranes, Uganda’s female national football team will also be in Morocco.

The Crested Cranes are back on the continent for the first time in 22 years having last taken part during the 2000 edition in South Africa which was their maiden WAFCON tournament.

George Lutalo’s charges are pooled in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Senegal.

The other female referees include, Rwandan Salima Mukansanga who recently made history when she became the first female referee to officiate a game at the Men’s Africa Cup of Nations when she oversaw the Zimbabwe-Guinea tie in this year’s group stage, will also be in Morocco.

Mukansanga is also among the three female referees that were appointed by FIFA to officiate at the Men’s 2022 World Cup, it will be the first-ever in history that female referees officiate at the men’s World Cup.

Besides Mukansanga, the other two are France’s Stephanie Frappart and Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita.

The tournament will kick off on Saturday, July 2 to Saturday, July 22 and the Cranes will get their campaign underway against Senegal on Sunday, July 3.
