Star forwad Juliet Nalukenge has headlined a list of seven Crested Cranes players dropped by head coach George Lutalo ahead of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Nalukenge was part of the Cranes team that played at the preparatory tournament (2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship), but, was only limited to a few appearances off the bench. Rumour has it that her axe is due to indiscipline.

The other six dropped players are; Shiraz Natasha, Aluka Grace, Biira Nadunga, Samalie Nakachwa, goalkeeper Hadija Nalongo and Shadia Nankya, but, the latter is out after suffering a long-term injury.

The seven have been added to the six players that had already been dropped, following the conclusion of the CECAFA Championship, which the Crested Cranes won.

Resty Nanziri, Halima Kayondo, Juliet Adeke, Viola Namuddu, Naome Nagadya and Miriam Ibunyu were the axed players earlier on.

Captain, Ruth Aturo leads the bunch of players that flew in from abroad and others are; Fauzia Najjemba, Tracy Jones Akiror, Yudaya Nakayenze, and goalkeeper Vanessa Edith Karungi.

George Lutalo’s charges will leave Uganda for Morocco on Tuesday, June 21 for a ten day training camp before the commencement of the competition.

The Crested Cranes are pooled in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Senegal.

Uganda’s first game will be against Senegal on Sunday, July 3 at tournament that kicks off on Saturday July 2 and ends on Saturday, July 22.
