Last year’s finalists Namuwongo Blazers tipped off their 2023 National Basketball League season on a positive note with a 71-62 victory over JKL Dolphins on Saturday.
The new-look team of the side that played the final last season, following the departure of most of their players, still managed to put in a shift to make one win in as many games.
The likes of; David Deng, Ariel Okall, Saidi Amisi, and Collins Kasujja among others exited the Namuwongo-based side.
On Saturday evening though, Stephen Nyeko‘s side made a somewhat slow start and were 10-14 down by the end of the first quarter, before they later turned it around.
Their victory was powered by Peter Cheng, Geofrey Soro, Syrus Kiviiri, and Micheal Makiadi who put in 16, 13, 11, and 10 points respectively.
For the Dolphins, Tom Omara, Bienfait Lola, and Martin Janvier had 15, 13, and 11 points but couldn’t guide them past the defeat.
The Namuwongo Blazers’ win was sweet revenge as they lost both of their 2022 regular season games against the Dolphins.
In the other games, KIU Titans outclassed Rezlife Saints, beating them 74-54 while UPDF Tomahawks managed a resounding 63-45 victory over Kampala Rockets.
