Kampala Queens edged closer to the top of the FUFA Women’s Super League with a narrow 1-0 victory over Wakiso Hill, while She Makerere secured a crucial point in their fight against relegation with a 1-1 draw against Asubo Ladies.
Kampala Queens fought hard to beat wasteful Wakiso Hill 1-0 in Kitende thanks to Zaina Nandede‘s early goal in the first half.
It took only nine minutes for the Queens of Soccer to have a goal through Nandede’s header off Catherine Nagadya‘s well delivered free kick.
In the second half, Wakiso Hill dominated but failed to capitalize on many clear chances with Kampala Queens goal keeper Daisy Nakaziro making several saves to preserve the 1-0 lead.
The win meant that Kampala Queens FC completed a double over Wakiso Hill and they close the gap at top of the table to one point behind leaders Kawempe Muslim while the Antelopes stayed bottom of with only 5 points.
In the next game, Kampala Queens will host Asubo Ladies on Saturday 24th, February 2024, while Wakiso will welcome Uganda Martyrs on the same day.
In Kawanda, Asubo Ladies FC slipped and shared spoils with She Makerere FC in a 1-all draw.
Kamiyat Naigaga scored for the hosts in the 54th minute but Winnie Babirye netted the equalizer for She Makerere at the death of the game.
This was Naigaga’s fourth strike of the season but all her goals have come against She Makerere. She netted a hattrick in the first leg when they won 4-2 before scoring another today.
She Makerere are now in the relegation zone, one point below safety, and they’re the team with the most draws (6) in the league this season and will host UCU Lady Cardinals on Sunday 25th, February 2024.
