Kutchi Tigers ascended to the top of the table in the National Men’s 50 Over League following their 5 wickets win over Ceylon Lions on Sunday.

All-rounder Hasin Ashani emerged as the hero for the Tigers with an impressive performance. Ashani knocked an 81 not out as his side completed the chase with 9 overs to spare.

The Ceylon Lions weren’t without a fight, putting up a respectable score of 200/8 in their allotted 47 overs, but their opponents fetched it in the 37.4 overs.

Collins Abong picked up three wickets for his side, but the batting power of Kutchi was one too strong to contain.

Both teams entered the match with perfect records, but it was the Lions who held the early advantage due to a better net run rate. The Tigers’ decisive win now sees them claim the top spot, leaving the Lions in their wake.

Budo Finally Breaks Through in Championship

Meanwhile, in the Championship (UCA National T20 League), Budo secured their first win of the season in dramatic fashion. The side was involved in a double header in Group A.

After a crushing 102-run defeat in the morning game against Tornado where they got bowled out in the 18th over, they bounced back with a thrilling 3-wicket victory in the afternoon encounter.

Leon Kigozi‘s three wickets and Rashid Mukasa‘s crucial 53 runs were instrumental in Budo’s turnaround. This win provides a much-needed boost for the team, who had previously suffered five losses.

Tornado finds themselves with a mixed record of one win and one loss after their doubleheader against Budo.

Meanwhile, Soroti City currently leads Group A with 7 points with an impressive record of three wins out of their first four matches.
