Entering the new calendar, the Uganda Hockey Association has released 14th March as the date for the 2026 National Hockey Season to get underway.
The season, which includes both the National League and Uganda Cup, will start with a Men’s league game between KHC Originals and Badgers at 13:00 hours, with the game expected to take place at Lugogo Hockey ground.
At the same venue, the opening day is scheduled to feature four games, split into two for the Men’s and Women’s League fixtures, with the second game between Rockets and WHC Titans at 16:00 hours.
Running concurrently, in the Women’s League, the opening game shall take place at 14:30 with Makerere facing Deliverance Church.
Wrapping up the opening day of the season, League defending Champion Wananchi will take on rivals Weatherhead at 17:30 hours, kicking off the season with a high-stakes challenge for both esteemed league contenders.
For the Men’s League, Defending Champion Wananchi Men’s shall start the defense against Makerere Men’s on the 15th, the next day. The days will also have four fixtures, starting 30 minutes earlier than the opening day.
Following the opening days, the league shall continue to run concurrently with teams continuing to gather for matches during weekends until November 22, when the last game shall be played.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Cup will get underway on 1st April, with the fixtures in a single-leg knockout format, leading to the final game scheduled on November 29.
Wananchi Men’s are the Men’s Uganda Cup defending champions, having defeated Weatherhead in the final on penalties 4-2, following a 2-2 draw, while Kampala Hockey Club Women’s won the Women’s Cup with a 4-1 win over Weatherhead Women’s.
