KCCA Leopards tame Dolphins for flying start

KCCA Leopards got their 2023 National Basketball League off to a start of dreams as they beat title favorites JKL Dolphins 63-58 on Friday at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.

The 2022 finalists, who didn’t lose a single game till the series final last year, fell in just their second game this season to a character-filled KCCA.

After the opening quarter, KCCA had made their intentions clear, leading 16-08.

However by halftime the  score was 32-29, with Dolphins fighting back to reduce the deficit to three points.

Ruth Atuheire and Peace Nakirijja were superb for KCCA Leopards, notching 15 and 13 points respectively. Atuheire added eight rebounds to her game win the player of the game accolade.

On the other hand, Dolphins’ star Brenda Ekone was denied free operational space, as she was limited to just 10 points.

Meanwhile, Hope Akello (16) and Flavia Oketcho (10) both had double figures for the Dolphins, but couldn’t steer them to victory on the evening.
