National Basketball League giants, UCU Canons and City Oilers will finally play their quarterfinal matches a week after the said round’s playoffs commenced.
The Canons will take on JKL Dolphins in game one of the three-game series at Lugogo on today.
The Mukono based side finished second in the regular season with a 19-5 record, setting up a date with JKLDolphins.
UCU beat JKL Dolphins twice in the season, 64-56 in the first round and 59-46 in the second, inditting them as strong favorites in this series.
On the other hand, City Oilers will tussle it out with UPDF Tomahawks later on today, also at Lugogo in the other quarterfinal playoff.
This will mark the start to Oilers’ journey to an eighth successive championship, having won seven in a row previously.
They finished the regular season third with a 19-5 record while UPDF finished sixth with 13-11.
City Oilers dominated this fixture in the regular season, winning 65-49 and 85-73 in the first and second round respectively.
The two fixtures come late as both UCU Canons and City Oilers had players on the National Senior team, the Silverbacks, who were in Abidjan, Ivory Coast for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
