The East and Central Africa Club Netball Championship came to a close yesterday with an all-Ugandan final at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi Kenya.
It was a repeat of the 2022 final as defending champions National Insurance Corporation (NIC) defeated compatriot Uganda Prisons.
Yet again, the most successful club in the region, NIC with 20 titles defeated the Luzira-based side 49-37 to clinch the regional crown in Nairobi.
The two rivals raced to the final with ease as none registered a defeat. Prisons we’re out to seal a double this season after winning the Uganda Netball Super League.
However, NIC had enough in their armour to stop the maroon brigade just like was the case last year at TLC Kamwokya.
NIC started well, taking the first quarter 9-6 and the margin kept on widening as they went into the halftime break with a 23-17 lead.
Back from the long break, the defending champions kept their foot on the gas peddle as they entered the final quarter with a margin of 8 points.
At this stage, Prisons was mentally out of the game and the final score of a 12 goals margin paints a clear picture of their show in the final quarter.
In the men’s category, WOBd defeated defending champions KIU 50-47 in a tight contest to lift their maiden regional gong.
The 2024 edition will be hosted by Tanzania in Dar es Salaam as the fight to dethrone NIC continues.
