In a repeat of last year’s final, Olila High School clinched their fourth Girls’ Schools Cricket Week title with a commanding five-wicket victory over reigning champions Light Secondary School in an all-Soroti final played at Gulu High School Cricket Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The highly anticipated showdown saw Olila High bowl out Light SS for a modest 45 runs in just 19.4 overs, thanks to a devastating spell by Immaculate Nandera who claimed a stunning 7 wickets for just 7 runs.

Her precision and consistency dismantled Light’s batting order with only team captain Misheal Ariago managing to offer any resistance, scoring an unbeaten 22.

None of the other batters reached double digits, as Light SS collapsed under pressure. Olila’s bowlers, led by Nandera, were relentless. Additional support came from Martha Amayo, Josephine Icumar and Lona Anyait, each chipping in with a wicket.

In response, Olila High had a shaky start, losing three wickets early, including captain Asumin Akurut and key all-rounder Nandera.

However, middle-order batter Malisa Ariokot held her nerve, anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 27. Her mature knock, peppered with five boundaries, ensured Olila crossed the finish line at 48/5 in just 13.5 overs.

Despite the loss, Light SS’s Tino Sarah shone throughout the tournament, earning both the Best Bowler award with 19 wickets and the coveted Best Fielder award.

Jinja SS’s Mary Namiro walked away with the Best Batter award, having scored 197 runs during the week. Immaculate Nandera of Olila High was named the Most Valuable Player with 723 points.
