Wakiso Giants Relegated!

Wakiso Giants’ turbulent season reached a bitter conclusion on Saturday afternoon as the Purple Sharks were officially relegated from the Uganda Premier League following a crushing 5-0 defeat at the hands of KCCA FC at Phillip Omondi Stadium.

What began as a must-win match for survival ended in heartbreak, as Wakiso Giants were not only outclassed but also finished the game with ten men after defender Ambrose Arinda was sent off midway through the second half for a second bookable offense.

By the time Arinda exited the pitch, the damage was already mounting. KCCA had taken a 2-0 lead, first through Ashraf ‘Fadiga’ Mugume, who calmly slotted home a penalty in the 20th minute after being brought down in the box, and then through Brazilian forward Joao Gabriel, who marked a rare start with a towering header early in the second half.

The numerical disadvantage opened the floodgates for the hosts. Youngster Umar Lutalo scored his maiden goal for KCCA, capitalizing on the space in a stretched Wakiso defense. Substitutes Yan Gatbel and Bright Anukani added a goal apiece, sealing a commanding 5-0 victory for the Kasasiro Boys.

The defeat confirmed Wakiso Giants’ relegation to the FUFA Big League, joining Mbale Heroes and Soltilo Bright Stars as the three teams demoted this season. With just 20 points from their campaign and sitting third from bottom, the writing had been on the wall for several weeks.

Meanwhile, KCCA FC climbed to fifth on the log with 44 points, continuing their strong finish to the season under interim management.
