Uganda Cranes ended their first Group H 2027 AFCON qualifiers stop on a high with a 1-0 win over Libya at the Hoima City Stadium.
Striker Arnold Vula, who turns out for Beerschot VA in the Belgian Challenger Pro League, headed past Libyan goalkeeper Ayman Altihar off Allan Okello’s free kick.
As the only side in the group to register a victory so far, Uganda tops the table with four points from two games. Botswana and Tunisia occupy second and third place with two points each, while Libya sits at the bottom with one point.
With two more games on the menu before the international break ends, the Uganda Cranes had little time to celebrate their historic at the new stadium.
The team boarded a Uganda Airlines flight from Kabalega International Airport to Entebbe International Airport this morning before heading to South Africa to honour two friendly games against DR Congo.
Uganda will play their East African neighbors on October 2 and 6. DR Congo is led by former Cranes tactician Sebastien Desabre, who recently guided them to the 2026 World Cup finals.
Cranes coach Paul Put noted that the purpose of these two games is squad building and preparation for future engagements, featuring recent foreign-based and naturalized additions to the Ugandan setup.
“We have two friendlies to try out the new faces and blend them with local-based players. The goal is to assemble the squad and compete with the best on the continent,” Put stressed.
