The Parliament of the Republic of Uganda has given a green light to the country’s joint bid with Tanzania to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

This comes at a time when the State Minister of Sports Peter Ogwang is battling with the government to have funds released for the full completion of the renovation of the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

“Parliament has approved a proposal to support FUFA and the F.A of Tanzania to field a joint bid to CAF to host the AFCON 2027 in East Africa,” a tweet by FUFA President Moses Magogo read.

For starters, CAF President Patrice Motsepe, Magogo, and Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met and a discussion on the same was held, at the State House Nakasero.

At the time, both Motsepe and Museveni agreed in the discussion, giving the drive even more purpose.

Uganda however faces a challenge with facilities as they have no CAF A approved stadium at the moment.

Tanzania on the other hand, only has one in the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, home to the Taifa Stars.
