The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled Belgian tactician Paul Put as the new head coach of the Uganda Cranes on Thursday morning.

The 67-year-old was unveiled on a two-year deal in a press briefing held at FUFA House and replaces Milutin Sredojevic, who was sacked in September 2023.

Put has a vast experience in African football, having managed national teams such as The Gambia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Kenya, Guinea, and Congo.

He also has experience in club football, having managed Belgian clubs such as Geel, Lokeren, and Lierse.

However, his career has not been without controversy. In 2010, he was banned for three years by the Royal Belgian Football Association for his alleged involvement in the Ye Zheyun match-fixing scandal.

In August 2019, he was sacked by the Guinea Football Federation which also gave him a lifetime ban.

His last assignment was in Congo before he left the position earlier this year.

Despite his past controversies, FUFA is confident that Put is the right man to lead the Uganda Cranes to success.

His first task will be the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Guinea and Somalia.
