It was a double celebration night for Ugandan basketball fraternity when the Junior Gazelles (Girls) and Junior Silverbacks (Boys) secured their slots at the Africa Championships.
Both teams faced neighbours Rwanda in the finals, with the girls thumping their opponents 82-52, while the Junior Silverbacks clinched a hard fought 69-66 win.
Uganda’s teams joined the round table decorated with; Angola, Egypt, Madagascar, and Mali who reached the semifinals in the 2022 championships in Madagascar.
The 2024 FIBA U18 Africa championships are set to take place in August in Johannesburg, South Africa. This will be Junior Gazelles’ fifth appearance, and the third for the Junior Silverbacks.
