Platinum Credit Heathens have this evening been crowned winners of the Rujumba 7s after defeating KOBs in the final.
In a repeat of the 2022 finale, KOBs came out firing with Ogena collecting a ball from kick off before advancing the KOBs and scoring in the corner.
Heathens, down a man with Okeny in the sin bin, pushed towards the KOBs line before Aredo was judged to have taken out Mulongo with a high tackle at the try line.
A penalty try was awarded, and Aredo told to take a 2-minute breather. Heathens would go into the break leading 07-05.
Heathens came out of the gate red hot for the second half and the ball found Lawrence Ssebuliba out on the wing to push the game to 12-05 in Heathens favor.
KOBs would go on the attack and spatial awareness would reward birthday boy Karim Arinaitwe with a try in the corner.
With the conversion missed, KOBs needed another score but their ensuing kickoff was not perfect, as the referee called a knocked forward ball, awarding Heathens a scrum, which they won and kicked the ball out for the win.
Platinum Credit Heathens’ Lawrence Ssebuliba was awarded Most Valuable Player during the Rujumba 7s for his stellar performance in both defense and attack.
Table leading Stanbic Black Pirates were ejected from trophy contention in the semifinals thanks to a late Ian Munyani try and Aredo Joseph conversion for KOBs.
In the women’s category, Black Pearls continued their form from Kitgum, claiming another circuit win, at the expense of the Avengers.
