In the aftermath of being named April’s finest player by Pilsner, Onduparaka FC skipper Muhammad Shaban dedicated the award to the club for trusting him yet again.
The forward has been brilliant since returning to West Nile, but was more consistent in April, scoring all the six goals the Caterpillars managed therein.
“When I was abandoned by everyone else, Onduparaka did not,” Shaban noted at a presser at Kati Kati Restaurant on Thursday.
“They approached me and treated me as their own by giving me a second chance and I am so grateful for that opportunity.”
“How I left in the first place was not pleasant but the club left all that behind and took me back home, I dedicate this award to the Onduparaka family,” he added.
In 2017, Shaban fell out with the Onduparaka management and he was stripped off the captain hence joining KCCA FC in a move that had many unanswered questions.
He later joined Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in 2018, before he returned to Uganda and signed for Vipers SC in 2019.
April was a turnaround for Onduparaka who were sinking, but, Shaban bailed them out and they are now almost safe from relegation.
They won three straight games, Police FC 4-1, SC Villa 1-0, and Express FC 2-0 with Shaban scoring all the goals for Onduparaka before they drew goalless with BUL FC.
He has so far scored 15 league goals, only two behind the leading goalscorer Cesar Manzoki who is on 17 with two games to the end of the campaign.
