Soroti City Cricket Club (SCCC) won the National Women’s T20 League title for the first time in their history after defeating Tornado Bees by 118 runs in Entebbe on Saturday.

The two teams were supposed to play a doubleheader, but the morning game was abandoned due to rain.

In the afternoon game, SCCC scored 168-5 in their 20 overs, with Evelyn Anyipo top-scoring with 47. Tornado Bees were then bowled out for 50 in 13.4 overs.

The win gave SCCC 21 points in the league table, one ahead of Olila High School, who won both their games. SCCC’s victory ended Aziz Damani‘s four-year dominance of the league.

“This is a dream come true for us,” said SCCC captain Janet Mbabazi. “We have worked hard all season and it’s finally paid off. We are so proud of this team.”

SCCC’s chairman, Felix Musana, said the victory was a “moment of immense pride and joy” for the club.

“This victory is not only a testament to the talent and perseverance of our players, but also a reflection of the support and encouragement we have received from our community,” he said.

“The collective effort of the coaching staff, support staff, and the entire SCCC family has played a crucial role in this remarkable achievement.”

The win is a major boost for women’s cricket in Uganda, and it is hoped that it will inspire more girls and women to take up the sport.
