The Cricket Cranes have been flagged off to Namibia for the Castle Lite Series, which will be played between July 5-13.
The traveling team includes two players who missed the Cricket Cranes’ victory at the Continent Cup in Nairobi, Kenya last month: Ronald Lutaya and Juma Miyaji.
Lutaya, who missed the trip due to an examination, is excited about his return. “I felt bad when I missed the Continent Cup, but I was always hopeful of retuning to the team,” Lutaya said.
“I feel excited to be back. It’s a big thing for me, and I have to continue helping the team. My role is to score runs. I have to get those runs, but most importantly I have to enjoy.”
The two players come in place of Siraje Nsubuga and Roger Mukasa, who have not yet recovered from the injuries they suffered during the Continent Cup.
The Castle Lite Series will be played in both the T20 and 50 Over formats, with the former taking place between July 5-9.
The 50 Over matches will then follow on July 11-13. Uganda lost the Series 2-1 in T20 last year, but drew 1-1 in the longer version.
The traveling squad is as follows:
- Brian Masaba
- Cyrus Kakuru
- Robinson Obuya
- Henry Senyondo
- Bilal Hassun
- Simon Ssesazi
- Alpesh Ramjani
- Kenneth Waiswa
- Riazat Ali Shah
- Dinesh Nakrani
- Juma Miyaji
- Pascal Murungi
- Ronald Lutaya
- Frank Nsubuga
The Castle Lite Series is a major opportunity for the Cricket Cranes to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup Qualifiers, which will be held in Namibia in November.
The team is hoping to build on their recent success at the Continent Cup and qualify for the World Cup for the first time.
