St. Mary’s Kitende Wins 3 Trophies at Wakiso District Ball Games II Qualifiers

The Wakiso District Ball Games II Qualifiers that started on Wednesday 21st June and climaxed on Friday 23rd June 2023 saw St. Mary’s Kitende lift three trophies.

St. Mary’s Kitende netball girls edged Buddo SS 21-19 to win the champioship at the event that took place at Mount College Kakiri.

The Kitende based side edged Kawanda 21-17 to reach the finals. Buddo had earlier defeated St. Noa Girls 20-17 in the first semifinal.

 

Buddo took the lead in the early stages of the game with three goals but Kitende fought back to level the scores at 8-8 in the first quarter.

 

In the last quarter, Buddo immediately regained the lead with two goals but Kitende showed the necessary resilience and outclassed Buddo to win the game with 21-19 scores.

 

St. Mary’s Kitende netball team head coach Kato Nourdine described the tournament as tough and highly contested.

“All the teams that participated, were strong and tactical making the tournament tricky and tough.”

He applauded his girls for the spirited performance until the end and also thanked Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa for supporting them.

“It was really tough in the final, we bounced back twice and my girls put up a spirited performance till to the end.”

“I thank Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa for always providing and supporting the team.” He concluded

St. Noa who were the defending champions, finished third after beating Kawanda SS 21-17 in the classification game.

Kitende’s Dominance

St. Mary’s Kitende proved that they’re the powerhouse in sports as they won 3 titles in different categories.

In Girls basketball 3X3, Kitende defeated Watoto 17-12 to win the championship.

Kitende U14 boys thrashed Wampewo High School 7-0 in football final to incredibly win the title.

The Kitende netball girls sealed it with 21-19 win over Buddo SS to take back three trophies at home.

Fifty schools with over 1300 students took part in the tournament.

The tournament had games like Basketball 3X3, Volleyball, Woodball, Dance Sport, Netball and Football both U14 and U16.

Wakiso District will be represented by seven schools namely; St. Mary’s Kitende, Buddo SS, St. Noa Girls, Kawanda SS, Greenlight Islamic, Canaan High School and Madinah Islamic.

The National tournament will be held at St Mary’s College Rushorooza in Kabale next month.
