It is rugby business as usual in Jinja this Saturday morning as Uganda’s finest launch their bids to challenge the Jinja Hippos for the Sevens crown.

The hosts and defending champions Hippos were next to error-less as they blew past Kyambogo winning 29-00 with five tries scored thanks to Yasin, Kisule, Rujumba & Opio Julius.

The stars were on show for the Pirates who won 38-08 in their opening game thanks to speedster Atukunda, Nkore, Kisiga and Wandera.

The Heathens were the biggest winners of the opening round, pummeling the lowly Walukuna Trojans and winning 43-00 thanks to tries from all across the field in Ssebuliba, Amollo, Ofoywroth, Otema, Okeny & Ochan.

Recently promoted Rhinos were huge 31-00 winners over a hapless Rams to start their stay in the top flight on the right note.

In an early twist to the tale, the Thunderbirds bested defending champion Black Pearls, coming back twice to win 19-14. In the other ladies’ game, the Avengers dealt with nerves and fought back to beat a stubborn Nile Rapids 10-07.
