Uganda Christian University (UCU) stamped its authority on regional tennis with a dominant performance at the East African University Tennis Championships in Nairobi.
The Mukono-based university topped the medal table with three golds and two silvers.

Trevor Kazibwe and Frank Tayebwa led the charge. Kazibwe took gold in the men’s singles, defeating teammate Tayebwa in an all-UCU final, while Kenyatta University’s Jim Claude Ochieng and Temoi Regan Kimtai claimed bronze.
The pair then combined to win the men’s doubles gold, beating Mt. Kenya University’s Naibei Godrick and Mogeni Stephen, who took silver.
Bronze went to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and Makerere University.
In the women’s category, Birungi Winnie secured UCU’s third gold by overpowering Kenyatta University’s Khaemba Joy Namgami in the singles final.
Makerere’s Christiana Owomuhangi and Angwech Tamali Joy earned bronze.
Birungi paired with Kirabo Lynnette to take silver in the women’s doubles, narrowly losing to University of Eldoret’s Marion Kandie and Mary Hulda.
With three golds and two silvers, UCU not only dominated the championships but also reinforced its status as a regional university sports powerhouse.
“This success reflects months of discipline, hard work, and a strong support system,” said UCU team manager Samuel Lukalire.
“Our players showed talent and mental toughness, and we are thrilled to bring these titles home.”
The championship gathered student-athletes from across East Africa, celebrating unity, competitiveness, and the future of university sports in the region.
