Kansai Plascon, East Africa’s leading paint manufacturer, has been officially unveiled as the main sponsor for the Uganda Open 2025, the nation’s most prestigious tennis tournament.
The announcement was made at a press briefing held by the Uganda Tennis Association (UTA), ahead of the tournament scheduled to run from May 10 to 24 at the Lugogo Tennis Complex and Kampala Club Limited.
This year’s Uganda Open will feature singles and doubles events for men and women across three competitive categories: juniors, seniors (Pro Event 18+) and senior veterans.
The tournament carries a prize purse of UGX 20 million and will be officiated by Charles Wanyama, one of Uganda’s two certified white badge officials. Registration remains open until May 8 at 5:59 PM via the UTA’s official tournament website.

Plascon’s Head of Sales, Mr. Moses Kato, expressed the brand’s excitement in supporting what he called a positive trajectory for tennis in Uganda.
“We are very delighted to be the main sponsors of the Uganda Open 2025,” Kato said.
“This is a great beginning and we look forward to more collaboration with the Uganda Tennis Association. Tennis, though underrated in Uganda, is a global sport and Plascon is proud to add it to our growing portfolio of supported disciplines including football, rugby, cricket and swimming.”
This marks the first time Plascon has partnered with the Uganda Open and the sponsorship reflects a broader ambition to invest in Uganda’s sports ecosystem.
The company praised the UTA’s grassroots efforts which include regional coaching programs, monthly junior tournaments and wheelchair tennis initiatives in line with international inclusion standards.
The Uganda Open, dating back to the 1980s, continues to attract top talent from across East Africa. Past champions include names like John Oduke, Mugabe Duncan and Shana Martin Mao.
This year, Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup players such as David Oringa, Frank Tayebwa, and Patience Athieno are expected to participate, underlining the tournament’s growing regional stature.

Speaking at the event, UTA officials emphasized the rapid development of tennis in Uganda.
“Our goal is to make tennis everybody’s game,” said the Association’s representative.
“We are taking the sport beyond Kampala, developing coaches and identifying talent in every region.
